About me…part 1
January 23, 2009
Those you already know me, need no introduction…so, you can feel free to browse my pictures instead…
For the rest of you, I am a graduate student, working on my Ph.D. (and hence, I have all the time in the world to blog
)…this is the boring stuff, so I will get to the more interesting stuff now…
once a upon a time, when I was pulling my hair out in frustration over research work back when I was an under-graduate student, I thought, ” Why not give artwork a try?” So, I took out a pencil and paper and started scribbling down leaves and flowers, then I opened up comics/books etc. and started drawing the characters, mind you, I never said I was doing an awesome job, but it wasn’t bad either. I then started drawing Calvin a lot, coz I was in love with this kid! Here is a link to some of the drawings.
Shortly after this new found passion of mine, I came to the U.S.A. to do an internship at the Michigan State University, and I bought my very first camera, a Canon Powershot A80…and I fell in love with photography, and the rest was history!! I put down my pencil and paper, and took to photography like a fish to water. It was just too amazing for me – at the click of a button, you can record any event/thing and it stays forever. It made me look at the world in a completely different way, I was spotting a plant growing on a rock, looking for insects, getting mesmerized by barren trees and broken branches, …it basically showed me how I could find beauty in the world around me…!
When I came to the U.S.A. again to do my Ph.D., I was bent on buying the Nikon D70 – I had been drooling over it for about a year when I was in India, I bought it the moment I first got paid, yeah, I spent my first month’s pay on it, I was also given a sound hearing about it by my dear bro at that time, but he came around when he saw what the camera did!
And he went and bought one for himself too!
Well, call me crazy, but that was that, and I totally loved the camera, though I took a really long time to figure it out, (well, I am still figuring it out, but the situation is not as bad, I can take good pictures)…an SLR is a piece of work (I am not saying the D70 is the best, newer and cheaper models have come out now, but, well, that is the nature of electronics, so I am not going to crib about it) – I still need to find the man behind this invention and thank him for this!
So, you may have figured out by now that I am passionate about photography, you may also say that I am obsessed with cameras and you will not be wrong!
But, well, what can I do? This is my solace, my refuge when I am stressed out, when I wanna pull my hair out, …Photography makes me happy, so there!
